On-site electrochemical destruction of PFAS “forever chemicals”

Enables industrial and municipal water and wastewater operators to destroy per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) using modular, low-energy electrochemical systems. Their approach replaces disposal or removal with actual destruction of PFAS, reducing liability, transport and long-term risks for clients in landfills, treatment plants and manufacturing sites.

TECHNOLOGY / INNOVATION

Aclarity’s proprietary electrochemical oxidation (EOx) system uses an engineered anode/cell configuration to break the carbon-fluorine bonds of PFAS compounds, converting them into benign products (e.g., CO₂, fluorine ions, HF) on-site without the need for incineration or high-temperature treatme

CURRENT STATUS

ORIGINS

Founded around 2017; spun out from university research at UMass Amherst. The CEO and founder, Julie Bliss Mullen, invented the core technology while a PhD candidate

OWNERSHIP

USP

Unlike conventional PFAS treatment which captures or isolates contamination, Aclarity’s system actively destroys PFAS on-site, thereby eliminating chain-of-custody risks and costly transport, and enabling clients to convert a regulatory burden into operational value

CUSTOMERS

Landfills, waste-water treatment plants, industrial manufacturers, municipalities, utilities managing PFAS-impacted water streams
